Acoustic Liquid Flow Floor Screed

Acoustic liquid screed self-compacting flowing screed is made to exacting standards by quality-assured manufacturers to BS EN 13813:2002.

It combines high-quality binder, specially selected sands, water and special additives where required.

 The screed is suitable for encapsulating an underfloor heating system, either electric or warm water. The Acoustic liquid screed system, which uses engineered joists as the primary supporting structure, is available for use in both timber frame and traditional masonry construction, both residential and commercial to improve the acoustic performance of the floor to meet or exceed Part E of the building regulations. Acoustic liquid screed also improves the environmental and durability characteristics and gives a concrete feel to a timber floor.

When building new apartments and other residential building types, there is a requirement for compliance with Building Regulations Part E.  Part E explains the resistance to the passage of sound.  To comply with Part E, there are two headline options available:

Pre-Completion Testing

Sound resistance is designed by an acoustician or architect and then tested at the end of the build to confirm compliance.

Robust Details

The build is registered with robust details, and pre-approved and tested products and designs are used to achieve compliance.

Many products can be used with a 40mm liquid screed to achieve robust details. Some of the most popular are Iso Rubber, E-FC-4, and Yelofon HD10, E-FC-18. Many other products are available, and costs for materials and installation vary.

For a long time, the minimum possible depth for a non-bonded flowing liquid screed was 40mm. Modern technology has reduced this to 15mm, so it is important to consider any variation in the subbase that the acoustic membrane and screed are being installed onto. For example, if pre-cast planks are being used and there is a camber tolerance of 20mm, you may need to allow for a minimum 35mm screed to ensure the minimum 15mm is achieved.

Acoustic liquid-flowing screeds for timber floors are used where sound travel between floors needs to be reduced. A typical floor build-up consists of timber Joists, timber OSB boards, sometimes with acoustic properties, and an Insulation or acoustic layer if required. If underfloor heating is installed, a 40mm acoustic liquid-flowing screed is increased to 50mm.
